NFIP has been reauthorized until December 20, 2024 through H.R. 9747, the “Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025.”  This bill was signed into law by on September 26, 2024, becoming NFIP’s 31^st short-term reauthorization since 2017.

This continuing resolution (CR) makes about $20B available through FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund.  President Biden has since sent a “Letter to Congress on Disaster Needs,” predicting that the Disaster Relief Fund will face a shortfall at the end of the year, and SBA’s Disaster Loan Program will face a shortfall in a matter of weeks.

In advance of the CR, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) urged his colleagues to reauthorize and reform the program on the Senate floor.  This is the sixth installment of a series of Senate floor speeches Cassidy is using to focus attention on unsustainable flood insurance premiums.
