NFIP – set to expire on March 14, 2025 – was reauthorized until September 30, 2025 through H.R.1968, the “Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025.”  The bill was signed by President Trump on March 15.  This continuing resolution (CR) provided for NFIP’s 33rd short-term reauthorization since 2017.  Sec. 1709 addresses NFIP.

CSFI continues to advocate for a multi-year reauthorization of NFIP for continuity and certainty for policyholders.  According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), a lapse of NFIP affects 1,360 home sale closings daily, translating to approximately 41,300 affected monthly transactions nationwide.

Senators Cassidy and Kennedy (R-LA) have introduced S.1015, which would extend NFIP until December 31, 2026.  NACo and GNO, Inc. support this bill.
