NFIP Launches Direct-to-Consumer Quote Tool and Announces Monthly Installment Payment Plan Progress

NFIP has released the new Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) Quote Tool.  The public launch of this tool follows RFIs in 2022 and 2023, during tool development.  Now, the D2C tool allows potential policyholders to complete the quoting process online, and the tool then lends connections to insurance agencies to complete purchase of flood insurance coverage.

Within the tool interface, property owners will provide “property information” (i.e., address), “building information” (e.g.., number of floors), and preferred coverage amounts (i.e., building and contents).   The tool will then generate premium options based on prior steps and deductible combinations.  The complete process to generate a quote takes approximately 10 minutes.  Once a quote is selected, it can be shared with an participating insurance agency.

While this tool is another step towards customer education and Risk Rating 2.0 transparency, CSFI continues to advocate for more clarity around – and proper crediting of – mitigation measures, such as first floor height, in the pricing methodology.  We aim for additional mitigation information to be included in future iterations of the tool.  You may also share comments with FEMA directly via the “Provide Feedback” button on the D2C tool or by email at FEMA-FMIX@fema.dhs.gov.
