CSFI Legislative Update and Action Alert – June 29, 2018

Good Afternoon CSFI Stakeholders –

I hope this email finds you all well.

Legislative Update

As you all are aware, we’re a little over a month out until the next expiration of the NFIP.  Yesterday, Senators Kennedy and Cassidy were successful in securing an amendment to extend the NFIP for six months as part of the farm bill, which ultimately passed the Senate. This is a major victory, but it is unclear at this point whether or not the House and Senate will work out the differences between the House passed farm bill and the Senate passed farm bill before the NFIP’s July 31 expiration. Senators Kennedy and Cassidy also introduced a standalone bill that extends the program for six months, and members are also looking at other legislation that must be passed before July 31 to attach an amendment extending the NFIP. I will be sure to keep you all posted as things develop in the coming weeks.

Take Action

In the meantime, I encourage all of you to reach out to your Senators and Members of Congress to urge them to reauthorize the NFIP before July 31 without a lapse. You can do that easily by clicking here to visit the CSFI Action Center. Please feel free to send this link to any friends and family you may have in flood prone areas and urge them to contact their representatives as well.

My best,

Caitlin
