An important update this morning on the NFIP reauthorization…

FEMA has announced that the NFIP will operate in a limited capacity during the federal government shutdown – and no new policies can be issued or renewed. This comes despite Congressional action extending the NFIP through May 31, 2019. FEMA said NFIP insurance policies that were in place on December 21, 2018 remain in force and claims under those policies will continue to be paid.

According to FEMA, while the NFIP was reauthorized, the lack of appropriations for the program during the federal shutdown means they cannot issue or renew policies at this time. We are hopeful that this issue can be resolved soon and we will let you know of any significant updates.
